The songwriter and Grammy award winner has tragically died in a plane crash at the age of 57. His wife Melody Carole (59) and their daughter Meryl Maxwell Wilson (28) also died in the crash. Grammy Winner Died in Small Plane Crash
According to U.S. media outlets, including FOX 17 and News Channel 5, Brett James was one of three passengers on a small plane that crashed on Thursday, September 18, 2025. Tragically, there were no survivors. The news of his death was also confirmed by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). In an emotional Instagram post, the organization wrote, "Brett, your ASCAP family misses you very much. Thank you for your unforgettable music." Shortly thereafter, it was revealed that Melody Carole and Meryl Maxwell Wilson were also on board the plane.
