A harrowing tale from Thailand reveals the destructive power of excessive alcohol consumption. A 44-year-old man died after drinking beer exclusively for an entire month.
His 16-year-old son found him unconscious in their home, surrounded by dozens of empty bottles. The case has caused shock and has shed harsh light on the consequences of alcohol addiction.
Thaweesak Namwongsa, a resident of the Ban Chang district in Rayong, was found lifeless by his son after suffering a seizure. Emergency services from the Siam Rayong Foundation rushed to the scene after a distress call, but all help came too late. In the bedroom of the house, they discovered a horrifying scene: over 100 empty beer bottles were scattered on the floor, carefully arranged so that a small path to the bed was kept clear. According to his son's statements, Thaweesak began drinking heavily after his separation from the boy's mother. The 16-year-old, who lived with his father after his parents' divorce, tried to prepare warm meals daily, but his father refused to eat anything. Instead, he focused entirely on drinking beer - with fatal consequences.
The tragic case from Thailand is not an isolated incident. Problematic alcohol consumption is also widespread in Germany. According to a study by the German Central Office for Addiction Issues, eight million people aged between 18 and 64 display worrying patterns in their drinking behavior. Particularly alarming: 1.6 million Germans are considered to be alcohol-dependent. The proportion is particularly high in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, where 2.61% of the population is affected - almost one percent more than the national average. Researchers have identified various signs that indicate a possible dependency. Anyone who notices these in themselves or others should act early:
1. Shift in priorities: Abandoning hobbies or social activities in favor of alcohol consumption is a serious warning signal.
