A devastating incident has struck the western coast of the Canary Island of Tenerife. Off the shores of Los Gigantes, four individuals were tragically swept into the ocean by a powerful wave, resulting in their deaths, while one person remains missing. Initially, authorities confirmed three fatalities, but further updates revealed the full extent of the tragedy.
The disaster unfolded shortly after 4 PM at one of the area's popular natural pools in Santiago del Teide. Many visitors were enjoying the rocky coastline and the water when, suddenly, a colossal wave surged in, pulling them into the depths without warning. Emergency services reported that several people were caught in the violent currents, including foreign tourists, as stated by the Diario de Avisos.
A search and rescue helicopter managed to retrieve one individual alive, but another was found deceased in the water. The reported fatalities include two men, one aged 35, and a 55-year-old woman. Sadly, a second woman, who was revived and taken to the hospital, succumbed to her injuries after arrival. It is currently unclear whether any of the victims were German nationals.
