A quiet, respected life

The palace said King Haakon ordered flags at half-mast and described Astrid as a warm, dutiful representative of the Royal House who supported King Harald and the family and was not afraid to speak her mind.

Family first

Astrid married Johan Martin Ferner in 1961; he died in 2015. The couple had five children — Cathrine, Benedikte, Alexander, Elisabeth and Carl-Christian Ferner — who released a statement expressing gratitude for memories and their shared grief.
