On Aug. 20, Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal sent a letter demanding Hegseth explain why an active-duty Public Affairs officer was placed in a senior role at Stars and Stripes and to provide details by Aug. 28. They pressed for who authorized the assignment, what authority the officer holds, who they report to and whether they will affect editorial, personnel, budget or management decisions.
