Mary Peltola emerged as the top vote-getter in Alaska’s open Senate primary and now heads into a high-stakes November rematch — but a recent outreach from Kamala Harris has put her campaign in an awkward spot. Read on to discover the full story!

Primary victory sets up Sullivan showdown

On Aug. 18, Peltola led the field with 48% of the vote and will face incumbent Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan, who finished second with 42.8%, in the November general election.

Distance from national Democrats

After an Aug. 12 email from Harris’ PAC — signed by the former vice president to solicit support for Peltola — the Alaska Democrat’s team made clear the outreach was unsolicited. Peltola’s camp emphasized she isn’t pursuing endorsements from the Lower 48 and highlighted backing from unions including AFGE, the Alaska AFL-CIO and IBEW Local 1547, plus over 10,000 local volunteers.
