A tragic incident unfolded on the western coast of the Canary Island of Tenerife, specifically near Los Gigantes, where four individuals were swept away by a colossal wave, resulting in their deaths. One more person is currently unaccounted for. Initially, local authorities confirmed three fatalities.
The accident occurred shortly after 4 PM at one of the popular natural pools of Los Gigantes in the Santiago del Teide municipality. At that moment, numerous visitors were enjoying their time on the rocks and in the water when an immense wave surged in, pulling them down into the depths. Emergency services reported that several individuals were carried off by the powerful currents.
Among those affected were reportedly some foreign tourists, as indicated by the newspaper Diario de Avisos. A rescue helicopter managed to retrieve one person alive while another was recovered deceased. As per official reports, the casualties included two men and one woman, aged 35 and 55 respectively. A fourth woman was resuscitated and transported to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries there. The current status of whether any Germans are among the victims remains unclear.
