The west coast of Tenerife, a picturesque island in the Canary Islands, has been rocked by a devastating tragedy. Just off Los Gigantes, four individuals were swept away into the ocean by a massive wave, resulting in their untimely deaths, while another person remains unaccounted for.
The incident unfolded shortly after 4 PM at one of the popular natural pools in the Los Gigantes area of Santiago del Teide. At that moment, many visitors were enjoying the stunning scenery both on the rocks and in the water when an unexpected, colossal wave crashed down, pulling them into the depths.
According to emergency services in the Canary Islands, several people were caught in the tumultuous waters, with reports detailing that foreign tourists were among those affected. A coastguard helicopter managed to rescue one person, while another was retrieved from the water but unfortunately had already succumbed to their injuries.
Initially, two men and a woman were confirmed deceased—one of the men was 35 years old and the woman was 55. Later, another woman was reported to have been flown to the hospital after resuscitation efforts, but she too could not survive. The current status of whether any of the victims were German tourists remains unclear.
