From 2005 to 2013 Lowther-Pinkerton was private secretary to Princes William and Harry and later helped Kate as she joined their public life. He aided military preparation, was involved in William and Kate’s 2011 wedding planning, and remains close: his son served as a page and he is godfather to Prince George.

A wartime love inspired by family

His debut novel, Beyond the Edge of the Light, out July 9, follows Missie Ormesby and a German aristocrat who end up on opposite sides as war looms. The heroine draws on his mother Sue, who served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service and later in security work and who died in 2024 at 99. He defends deeper truths about soldiers, royal life and the people behind the headlines.
