Family on edge after prior attempts

Eric Trump has publicly fumed over repeated attempts on the president's life. The book and reporting reference the July 2024 Butler, Pennsylvania shooting in which Thomas Matthew Crooks struck the president in the upper right ear, and an April White House Correspondents' Dinner incident where Cole Tomas Allen allegedly rushed past security after traveling from California, armed with multiple weapons in what prosecutors called a premeditated plan.

The president has said he left instructions for retaliation if anything happened to him, warning any successful attack would be met with a strong response.
