The sovereign takes the salute, then members of the royal family gather on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch a Royal Air Force flypast and the Red Arrows. King Charles, Prince William and Princess Anne often wear military dress while Queen Camilla and Kate Middleton choose stylish hats. The couple’s children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — deliver adorable and unpredictable moments; Louis famously covered his ears and shouted during the 2022 flypast. The 2022 Trooping was also Queen Elizabeth’s final appearance at the event months before her death in September, after which she made a last balcony appearance following the Platinum Jubilee.

In 2026 the public celebration is scheduled for June 13, marking the fourth year of King Charles’ reign.
