Backlash and accusations

Critics slammed Greene for celebrating Peters, accusing her of "perpetuating the big lie" and of siding with someone convicted for actions tied to the 2020 election. Social media users questioned whether Peters had learned from her conviction.

What Peters was convicted of

Peters was convicted in 2024 of attempting to influence a public servant, conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation and violation of duty after allowing an outside expert connected to My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell to access Mesa County's Dominion Voting Systems server. She was sentenced to nine years, but Colorado Gov. Jared Polis commuted her sentence in May, calling it unusually long for a nonviolent first-time offender. Peters issued a statement saying she had learned from her time in prison and would follow the law going forward.
