A palace statement on May 29 said the Crown Prince will shorten his official Japan visit by one day: he will keep the Tokyo program from June 1–3 but cancel the June 4 stop in the port city of Hachinohe.
Haakon, 52, said he is concerned for Crown Princess Mette-Marit, also 52, who was diagnosed with chronic pulmonary fibrosis in 2018 and has recently been seen using oxygen at public events. He told broadcasters her health has declined lately and noted that decisions about a possible lung transplant are for medical specialists to make.
