Harrold's explanation

Within days he responded on Instagram Stories, explaining he didn’t take or own the picture and had “genuinely mistook” it for an original. He said the image reminded him of the couple he had known and that it made him smile, but acknowledged he will be more careful about verifying content before sharing.

Harrold served as a butler from 2004 to 2011 at Highgrove House and says his duties covered members of the royal family, including Charles, Camilla, William, Kate and Harry, with occasional service to the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. He signed his statement with his media name, The Royal Butler, the same branding tied to his 2025 book.
