Rollins won two Grammys from seven nominations, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004, and earned a Kennedy Center Honor and the National Medal of the Arts in 2011. His archive was acquired by the Schomburg Center in 2017. Married briefly to Dawn Finney in 1957 and later to Lucille Pearson (his manager) until her 2004 death, he played his last concert in 2012 and stopped performing in 2014 due to pulmonary fibrosis. He is survived by nephew Clifton Anderson and nieces Vallyn Anderson and Gabrielle DeGroat; no public memorial is planned.
