Maury Povich, 87, has opened up about the aggressive tabloid machine that pursued Rob Lowe in the late 1980s — and he praised how Lowe handled the pressure. Read on to discover the full story!

The tabloid pursuit

Speaking on the Literally! With Rob Lowe podcast, Povich said that while he hosted A Current Affair (1986–1990) he and his team relentlessly went after Lowe, trying to get footage and comments during one of the actor's most scrutinized periods.

The 1988 controversy

In 1988 a sex tape emerged involving Lowe, a then-16-year-old Atlanta girl identified as Lena Jan Parsons, and her 23-year-old friend Tara Seburt. Lowe has maintained he did not know Parsons was underage; he settled a lawsuit with her family and was not criminally charged, later speaking about rebuilding his career.
