On April 27, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen appeared in court and was formally charged with attempted assassination of President Donald J. Trump, interstate transportation of weapons and discharge of a firearm during a violent crime. He looked emotionless, wore a blue jumpsuit and spoke softly. Allen did not enter a plea and was remanded into custody pending a detention hearing on April 30; a preliminary hearing was set for May 11. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jocelyn Ballantine asked the court to keep him detained.
