Human and political toll

The campaign began in late February and, according to The Wall Street Journal, has cost the lives of 13 American service members. Leavitt argued the blockade validates the operation and said the White House has a "plethora of solutions" to reopen the shipping lane. The opening strikes reportedly killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei; his son Mojtaba has taken power and vowed to continue the fight.

Trump's stance

On Truth Social the president claimed U.S. forces had "beaten and completely decimated Iran... Militarily, Economically," while acknowledging Iran can still deploy drones, mines or short-range missiles to harass shipping. Leavitt dismissed media accounts she called misleading and said the administration is working nonstop to shape public perception.
