Deceased princess had been living in Mallorca for years

Princess Birgitta was known for her striking appearance – with bright blonde hair, tanned complexion, and distinctive fashion. However, she herself perceived her youth as less glamorous. In an interview, she described her childhood as a "golden cage”. As the second daughter of Princess Sibylla and Prince Gustav Adolf, she led a strictly regulated life before moving to Munich to study. There she met Prince Johann Georg of Hohenzollern, whom she married in 1961 in Sweden and Germany. The couple had three children, but separated in 1990, remaining officially married until Johann Georg's death in 2016.

After their separation, Princess Birgitta moved to Mallorca, where she led a secluded life away from the royal limelight. She was a passionate golfer and regularly organized tournaments in Santa Ponça, where the "Princess Birgitta Trophy" was awarded.

Royal visits were rare, but she maintained a special bond with her niece, Crown Princess Victoria. Victoria last visited her aunt in Mallorca in the autumn of 2023.
