Power Struggle Over Greenland Intensifies!
Only hours after the fruitless crisis summit in Washington, Europe sends a clear signal: The first European soldiers have landed in Greenland overnight. The backdrop is the escalating dispute over the future of the Arctic island, with Donald Trump continuing to insist on U.S. control over Greenland.
A transport aircraft of the Danish Air Force landed at the airport of the Greenlandic capital Nuuk during the night. On board were Danish and French soldiers. Almost simultaneously, another plane landed at the military base in Kangerlussuaq. Reports indicate that both planes flew without active identification. On Thursday, 13 soldiers of the Bundeswehr are expected, who have been invited by Denmark to explore potential military support.
Earlier, a meeting of high-ranking representatives of the U.S., Denmark, and Greenland in Washington ended without a result. U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with their European counterparts there. Trump himself did not participate. Denmark's Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen later spoke of fundamental differences and made it clear that Washington had different ideas than Copenhagen.
