The Luxembourg royal family has announced the death of Prince Frederik. The 22-year-old, son of Prince Robert (56) and Princess Julie de Nassau (58), died after a long illness. Here is everything we know so far:
In an emotional Instagram post by the "POLG Foundation", the parents shared: "Last Friday, Frederik called us to him one last time. With his final strength, he said goodbye to us - his last words to me were: 'Dad, are you proud of me?'” Frederik had been suffering from a POLG mutation, a genetic mitochondrial disorder, which damages organs by energy deprivation, since 2016. Despite the incurable diagnosis, he remained combative until the end: "His humor and his compassion allowed him to comfort us even in the last moments with a smile", the statement reads.
