A severe accident has occurred in a popular ski area: A chairlift fell, injuring more than 30 people, according to local media reports. Here is everything we know so far;

Chairlift Collapse: Numerous Skiers Seriously Injured

Reportedly, 17 individuals suffered serious or even life-threatening injuries. The ski station was immediately closed after the incident. Rescue forces mobilized all available units, including five helicopters, to take care of the injured. Moreover, several hospitals in the Aragon region were put on high alert. According to the Guardia Civil, the affected lift passengers fell from a height of about 15 meters. The cause of the crash is currently unclear. However, initial images from the scene of the accident show that apparently the drive wheel of the chairlift broke off from the system and fell to the ground. Information about the nationalities of the injured is not yet available.
