But it wasn't just Kate who was rocked by the diagnosis - Prince William (43) also went through one of the hardest phases of his life. His former communications chief Jason Knauf remembers: "It was absolutely terrible. The prince has never been in such a bad state." The worry about his wife and the question of how to explain the situation to their children weighed heavily on him. Especially the balance between public role and private responsibility was a challenge. "They had to be parents first," says Knauf. It was important to protect George (12), Charlotte (10), and Louis (7) without excluding them. For William and Kate, it was clear: Their children should learn the truth, but in a way that would not overwhelm them.
Today, Kate is cancer-free, but the fear of a relapse is still present. But despite this fear, Kate and William have shown that they are stronger as a team than ever before. They support each other and face the challenges together. This difficult time has brought them closer together as a couple and as a family. And although the scars remain, their story shows that hope and solidarity can shine even in the darkest hours.
