The Grammy-winning songwriter has tragically died in a plane crash at the age of 57. His wife Melody Carole (59) and stepdaughter Meryl Maxwell Wilson (28) also perished in the accident. Grammy Winner Crashes in Small Plane
According to US media, including FOX 17 and News Channel 5, Brett James was one of three passengers on a small plane that crashed on Thursday, September 18, 2025. Tragically, there were no survivors. The news of his death was also confirmed by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). In an emotional Instagram post, the organization wrote: "Brett, your ASCAP family misses you deeply. Thank you for your unforgettable music." Shortly thereafter, it was revealed that Brett James' wife Melody Carole and their daughter Meryl Maxwell Wilson were also on board the plane.
